Saturday, 5 January

Hill session this morning at the back of the track. Took Hamish with me and he was pretty good for the majority of it. We took the bus to Bell Street and walked 15 minutes to the track

Did a shortened warm up as a couple of people had to leave early. Then through the back gate for six long reps (about 100 metres), five minute break, then six short reps (about 75 metres). Everyone got through this really well.

Was particularly impressed with new runner Marc who wants to run a marathon later in the year. Also challenged Michael Jordan to run in the first group for the second set and he was definitely up to the task

Carmel though the cone at the top for the first set wasn't up far enough. After running the first effort I thought perhaps it was actually further than it had been for previous sessions and I let her know about it! Anyway its all good training

Josh was having trouble with his breathing through the fourth effort of the second set and Diane wisely told him to take a break. I said he could do the last one, but after a bit I decided he could sit out the rest of the session. Hope he didn't mind too much

And just for "fun" after a decent break we all walked over to Kodak hill and did two of those with walk back down recovery. These were non-compulsory but everyone did them with the exception of Josh. Bit worried about that now on reflection. Was pretty stuffed getting up that long hill so knew we had just done a good session. Plus carrying my 4 year old son Hamish some of the way there took a bit out of the legs also

TOTAL DISTANCE = 2 kilometres including warm up and Kodak Hill
