First run of the club's 2008 winter calendar today with the club's AGM to be held afterwards. Had been waiting for this day for over six months, since I made the decision to have a stab at becoming President

As for the run, well our winter captain wasn't there so it was up to me to announce the vourse and at 2:00 pm off we went. We had a couple of new fellows with us in Wes and Liam Magee and the return of marathon specialist Sam Tabit. Last year he ran 3:13 for the marathon, so hopefully he will give our top team a bit of grunt
My job was to take the fast group and unfortunately I went out too fast, although that wasn't apparent until I had got about 1 km in. Had to stop to go to the loo after 10 mins in and spent the rest of the first half of the event catching up to the lead runners. Managed to overtake Liam at the half way point and lead the rest of the way to the finish but there was only 300 metres in it, so look for big things from Liam. And Sam Tabit came home third so a very promising beginning to the winter. I was absolutely rooted afterwards and yet again I did not take this as easily as I should have. Stupid really, becuase all week I had been saying I was going to treat this as an easy run
What was disappointing was the reasonably small turn up for the first winter race of the season. And that meant not as many AV forms submitted as last year. Hopefully numbers will pick up a bit as we near the season start in two weeks
The AGM was an absolute bust. No-one nominated me for President so Kylie rescued me and then there was this huge pause as everyone looked around, but no-one seconded. Luckily someone finally came to my second rescue. I was up against Mark Kelly and he won convincingly. So I lick my wounds until next year and thank the six people who did vote for me - it was a secret ballot but I found out later who my real friends were
TOTAL DISTANCE = 6.5 kilometres

To bad about the AGM result Jeg, I know your passion is very much Coburg Coburg & Coburg, which is excellent.

Better luck next time and maybe some managing your numbers better behind the scenes and getting your supporters to the meeting.
